Our Story
The NNRPDP creates and presents professional development for teachers, administrators, and districts in their desired area of growth, and we are located where you are! We work with participants in their own schools or classrooms to improve student learning through improved teaching. You might consider professional development services at any of these levels:
- District-wide: Initiatives led by district goals provide long-term, collaboratively planned instruction over several weeks or semesters
- School-based: Seminars provide focused, actionable strategies and knowledge to meet individual schools’ particular goals and outcomes
- Teacher growth: Individual and small group collaboration and coaching for teachers who have specific areas of interest for growth
The 70th Session (1999) of the Nevada State Legislature passed Senate Bill 555, which, under Sections 16 and 17, authorized the establishment of four Regional Professional Development Programs (RPDPs) in the state. Their collective charge is to support the state’s teachers and administrators in implementing Nevada’s academic standards through regionally determined professional development activities.Under SB 555, fiscal agents for the regional programs are to be located in Clark, Washoe, and Elko County School Districts.*
However, the planning and implementation of professional development services in each region must be overseen by a governing body consisting of superintendents in the respective regions, master teachers appointed by the superintendents, and representatives of Nevada’s higher education system and the State Department of Education (Section 16.1-16.8).
* Service regions are designated as the Northeastern RPDP (at Elko), serving Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, and White Pine Counties; the Northwestern RPDP (at Washoe), serving Carson, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe Counties; and the Southern RPDP (at Clark) serving Clark, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Mineral, and Nye Counties.
