CRITICAL LITERACIES BOOK CLUB
Purpose: In this course, participants will dive into the world of critical literacy. Critical Literacy is not about teaching a method but a way of thinking and a way of being that challenges texts and life as we know it. During each book club cycle, k-12 teachers will practice critical literacy through discussion based on the content of a thought-provoking and beautiful short literature book and supporting materials. We will work together to establish an understanding of what it means to read and think critically. This course is dedicated to reading with 'wide-awake eyes', paying attention to the messages texts advance and will empower participants to think critically. Participants will leave with practical tools and talk support to help students question, analyze and talk back to the many narratives they encounter throughout their daily lives.
